We spend a lot of time analysing, criticising, admiring, comparing and looking at our bodies. We are engrossed and obsessed with images of bodies. We always want to change our bodies – often wishing they were different. The human body is incredible. I am fascinated by how the human body works and always in awe of what it can achieve.
I’ve spent the last 8 weeks working on challenging my body physically. I am probably the fittest and healthiest I have ever been in my life and I could reel off lots of statistics associated with these photographs… the amount of weight I’ve lost; the hours I’ve trained in the gym and the inches that have disappeared BUT, in a world where we are pressurised constantly to look a certain way, I’ve spent a lot of time setting different goals for myself and thinking about body image and what’s actually important.
This challenge was more mental for me. It was a chance to refocus and it coincided with starting a new and important role at work. I needed to ensure that I had the balance right. Most people know me as a confident person but, like everyone, I have my own insecurities and flaws that I keep hidden and there are many situations where I lack confidence. I did not want to step foot in the weighted area of the gym that I’ve been going to for the last 4 years – mainly out of fear and feeling inadequate or looking incompetent. I have managed to overcome this barrier and thoroughly enjoyed working on a bespoke programme designed to suit me and my body. Without the gym over the last year due to restrictions, I have realised how important it is for me from a social point of view. Socialising with lovely people, after work, when you sometimes need to de-stress is amazing! The group training and bootcamp classes are always great fun and a much needed release for me. It’s so good to turn up and have someone shout at me when I spend my days bossing teenagers around!
I definitely don’t have the perfect body (I don’t even know what that is as I don’t think it even exists). I am not and never will be what society considers skinny (I like food and vodka too much). I have curves that I am proud of – I think we’ve definitely had a cultural shift with this so women feel that they can be stronger and healthier not just skinnier. I don’t really care what the scales say any more. I’m not trying to have a desirable body for any body else any more – it is a working progress both physically and mentally for me now. A lifestyle change and shift to be the best version of myself consistently.

I’ve been going to JSBeFit for years and getting good results when I did various challenges. After making good progress, fitness took a back seat in my life.
Around the same time that I was looking to get back fit, COVID hit, and John was brilliant. We decided I was going to take part in an online challenge – T31K. Knowing the prize was not my motivation he, not only got me to match my peak physical fitness but also, improved my life on a day to day massively. Knowing body composition wasn’t my main goal. We worked on other things looking at improving physically and mentally week on week. I find it hard to organise and fit everything I want to achieve into a schedule and the online training definitely helped that.
Not only did online training help physically but after a couple of tough years it put me in the best place I had ever been mentally. John worked out what I needed in-terms of guidance pretty quickly and educated me so I understood the reasons for little tweaks in diet and training.
After 12 weeks of online training, I just had to carry on. I had some great progress and was definitely at the peak of my physicality.
We looked at then increasing my weight and mass. Knowing my my previous medical history. John explained to me that using a predominantly plant based diet with organic lean animal proteins would be better for my health. We than did this and I was able to gain a good amount of mass.
I’d like to finish by just saying thank you. Without going too much into it, the training I received from John couldn’t have happened at a better time. It got me back on track and I was able to progress so much quicker than I ever thought I would have. If anyone is thinking about online training/ any type of coaching with John, I would say trust him and his knowledge. With that and commitment you can go a long way.

After having my first baby and a few months into the first lockdown, I was feeling unmotivated and unfit. I saw John advertise his T31K challenge and knew I had to do it. Having been a member at John’s gym for a number of years, and having been on his team for a few challenges before, I knew that I would get the results that I wanted.
John gave me a nutrition & training plan which was unique to my own goals. I was able to do the training at home – when I first started the gyms were still closed, but this was also good for me as I could fit my sessions around having a young baby. So I’ve done a few gym challenges in my time but felt I really wanted to challenge myself further so signed up to a photo shoot challenge with Train JB Coaching. Albeit it had its ups and downs, some weeks I felt like quitting but with the help and support from John, especially around nutrition, something that’s a constant struggle for me, I managed to achieve the results I wanted. I’m a really active person and one of the hardest things for me was having rest days. I first approached John during a low point in life. 4 years ago I was hospitalised with Sepsis which nearly claimed my life. The after effects of this left me with ME ( chronic fatigue) which resulted my ballooning up to around 20st. I knew I needed to do something about it for the sake of myself and my family so I asked John for help. He listened to my issues and then took the time to go and do research into the condition then came up with a plan. This was the best decision ever made as along with his guidance and one of the challenges I dropped my weight down to 15.5 st. I felt so much better and was in a good place to manage my condition. I then had a period away from the gym due to injuries and found it difficult to regain motivation to get back into it. Weight started to creep up and the hard work began to unravel. Again a conversation with John has resulted in an 8lb loss and few inches lost in the right places. Feeling fully motivated again, noticing the difference visually and set up to continue from here.
It’s not just a case of having a plan and being left to get in with it. It’s guidance along the way and that voice to tell you to keep going and motivating you all the way.

I started working with John online training after seeing before and after pictures of a friend, I was amazed but didn’t think he could do the same for me. It was lockdown, I was working away from home as a keyworker, no gym and living off comfort eating convenience foods. I didn’t think I had loads to loose, I wasn’t dead fat but knew I didn’t feel comfortable with myself. John talked me through the process and I was skeptical but willing to try.
Well I took those before pictures and I was shocked, I hadn’t seen my back in so long, who looks at their back and the side profile wasn’t sucked in. I was shocked and a bit disgusted with those pictures and it really motivated me to give myself the kick I needed.

My Brother John one of the owners of JSB Fit was concerned about my health as I had gotten to a dangerous weight , I was quite apprehensive at first about class training etc but I found it to be hard but enjoyable experience. I had done a little training with him before the gym opened one to one and had achieved great results but had let myself slip into my bad habits so it came a time for me to do something about it again. I think I’m right in saying that in the first pic I was around 20 stone. I started going every morning after taking the the children to school. There was always help on hand if I was having a bad day or fancying a pizza haha , Jsb give you everything you need to succeed from meal plans , recipes and guidance on training . I found the gym to be a friendly and social place I met new people, made a few friends and reconnected with some old ones. It did a great deal for my health body and mind. I was in the best shape I have been in along time in the second pic and I was so pleased with the results. It helped me in so many ways and I couldn’t have been prouder of myself at that time.

Having been running for 3 to 4 years and having background in sports, I had always felt that I knew a fair amount surrounding training, supplements and nutrition. However, with a rather ambitious marathon target set, and the race 3 months away, I reached out to John to support & guide me in making sure I gave myself the best chance to achieve my goal of breaking 2:50.
I spoke to John initially around planning the nutritional needs pre, during and post training sessions. Too say the information and knowledge received was comprehensive would be an understatement and I soon realised I’d been getting a lot of things wrong. From the weekly feedback forms we regularly adapted, tweaked and changed my nutrition to maximise my training sessions and performance for the marathon. I was provided with a clear nutritional breakdown and what supplements would benefit at different times of training plan.
On marathon day I achieved a PB of 2:44:09 knocking 12+ minutes off my previous best and a large part of this was down to the guidance, knowledge & support from John through every phase of my plan.
